A Message from the Editor-in-Chief

A 2019 fundraising appeal for issues 5 and 6 of Spittoon Literary Magazine, carrying a message from Editor-in-Chief Simon Shieh.

Spittoon Literary Magazine needs your help to fund the production of its next two issues. Here is a message from its Editor-in-Chief:

In 2015, Matt Byrne started Spittoon. In 2016, Matt and I founded Spittoon Literary Magazine. At the time, we believed in the importance of a periodical that introduced English-language readers to emerging and established Chinese writers, but we didn’t know if anybody else would. Now, we find ourselves at the vanguard of Chinese literature in translation thanks to you, our amazing community of readers and writers. We have translated and published some truly exceptional writing by voices both established and underrepresented in China, but we still have a lot that we want to do. We’ve already raised an incredible 8,000RMB, but are still shy of our 20,000RMB goal for 2019, which will take us through issues 5 and 6. By sponsoring our 2019 issues, you are making a significant contribution toward putting 18 Chinese writers and artists on the world stage. Please help us give Chinese writers and artists the international recognition they deserve!
