Spittoon MEGACITY Hangzhou

The programme for Spittoon MEGACITY Hangzhou — a full day of events on 7th December 2019 co-organised with the Hangzhou Writers Association, including writing workshops, open mic, Chinese poetry in translation, a poetry slam, and Spittunes.

A Full Day of Literature and Art

On Saturday 7th December 2019, Spittoon brought MEGACITY to Hangzhou in collaboration with the Hangzhou Writers Association. Brew Gang on Zhong Shan South Road hosted a full day of events from 3pm to 10pm — one of the most programme-dense days of the entire MEGACITY series.


The Programme

3:30pm — Megacity Open Mic (ongoing throughout the event) Open to anyone wishing to read or perform original work or a favourite poem or story.

4:00pm to 5:00pm — Liz Lerman Writing Workshop A discussion-based writing workshop for participants to bring and develop their own original work.

4:00pm to 6:00pm — Paint and Sip Workshop A glass of wine, conversation, and a unique handicraft created by each participant.

5:30pm to 6:30pm — Dinner and networking break

6:30pm to 7:30pm — Liz Lerman Writing Workshop (second session) A second round of the discussion-based writing workshop.

6:30pm to 7:00pm — Chinese Poetry in Translation An open discussion on the challenges of translating classical Chinese poetry into modern English.

8:00pm to 9:00pm — Poetry Slam Contest An elimination-style competition for original poetry performance. One winner.

9:00pm to 10:00pm — Spittunes Poetry and music collaboration to close the night.
